Nurses Week is a yearly celebration beginning on May 6th and ending on May 12th that honors the nursing profession. This year, we’re celebrating each day by turning the spotlight on one of our very own healthcare heroes! Read on to learn more about Chelsey Traxler, LPN.
I’m the oldest of three from Magee, Mississippi. I’m very family oriented and have a Boston Terrier named Jack. I love to shop, explore, and try new things. Makeup has always been my passion. I am an aspiring makeup artist (MUA). I love crafting. I enjoy planning events, decorating etc. I eventually plan on going back to school. My ultimate goal is to become a NP and open up my own clinic. I would love to have somewhere geared more towards assisting victims of sexual assault, both mentally and physically.
I have always enjoyed helping people. I previously worked as a pharmacy technician for 7 years. I worked at a facility for IDD patients and decided that I liked psych and wanted a more hands-on role in healthcare.
I think the coolest thing that I get to do is travel and experience different places. My very first assignment was in the great white mountains of New Hampshire. Can you imagine taking a southern girl and putting her up north with nothing but snow and ice? Talk about a culture shock!
The most meaningful part to me is making someone smile. I know that I’ve done my job if the patient is in good spirits when I walk away.
I don’t think anything prepared me for COVID-19. It was a total shock! To me, it was like the world stopped.
I think when it comes to being a nurse you have to learn to adapt to different situations. They teach you about critical thinking, but not so much about being more open minded and able to adjust on the drop of a dime.
